Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Unsure  from  Resort King Room

We checked in at 6:30 PM on a Wednesday on August 2. We had a King room reserved for 2 nights. Check in wasn’t too busy. The front desk clerk was a nice young lady in her 30s and looks like she’s worked here for awhile. I was hesitant in doing the sandwich trick, but did anyways. I was nervous, yet polite and friendly. She in return was friendly as well. As I asked for a complimentary upgrade, I gave her a $50 with my sandwich. As soon as she saw it, she returned it back to me and politely said that she can not accept it. She did say she can see if there are any upgrades. At this point I was embarrassed. She told me she can try to get me into a Salone Suite at an extra $75 a night, but then she said it wasn’t ready. She end up giving us a King room on the 20th floor with a far view of the fountain at an extra $40 a night. The tower is located far from the front desk and behind the parking structure. We ended up paying a total of $520 for 2 nights with all the tax, fees and upgrade included. At $260 a night on a week day. Seems like we didn’t make out on this deal. Will try at another resort next year. The irony of this was that the $50 I was trying to give her for an upgrade. I used it playing slots that night and won a total of $800!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Bellagio Suite  from  Resort King Room

1 weekday night in April with no major events/conventions.

Check-in was medium sized busy as we arrived about 5-6pm or so. Ushered to a friendly Eastern European guy who chatted us up nicely. He saw the $20, let it sit in plain view and smiled and said he’ll do what he can.

Went from a run of the house room to a Bellagio Suite (non fountain view…but that was ok by us) on a high floor (20+)!

Well worth it. And we’re going back there again next month!

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Bellagio Suite  from  Resort King Room

Checkin at 7pm on a Wednesday night for 1 night stay.

Very friendly older male agent. Handed sandwich and was upgraded from a “run of the house” king room to a Bellagio Suite on the 32nd floor. (no fountain view but hey beggers can’t be choosers!)

Very nice room and massive with 2.5 baths, a separate living room and great high views of the backside of LV city.

Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Resort Tower King  from  Resort King Room

Almost chickened out, but decided to do the sandwich trick (I used a $50). I was polite and asked about any upgrades. We were given the upgrade to a Resort Tower king, a free buffet and a line pass to get us to the front of the line. Definitely worth it.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Penthouse Premier Fountain View Suite  from  Penthouse Suite

I went in early on our check in day at 9am. Since we already had a penthouse reserved I was hoping to get an upgrade to a fountain view. I didn’t specifically target any clerk since there were only 2. The girl at the desk was very nice and immediately handed the $20 back when she took my ID and card. After looking up my reservation she said here were no complimentary upgrades available for the room I booked but she would look into a fountain or premier view room for the difference. I ended up paying the extra $100 for the premier view as a surprise for my wife. I assume since it was a holiday weekend and I had already booked a penthouse there really wasn’t much to upgrade to but it was worth a shot. It also seemed like at the VIP check in they weren’t allowed to take tips since she handed the $20 back before looking at the computer.

Tipped:  $100 Upgraded to  Grand Lakeview Suite  from  2 Bedroom Penthouse Suite

Tried to upgrade with a $100 and was unsuccessful. I think it was mostly because I booked a high end suite to begin with. I figured I’d make it a C-note and go for a Grand Lakeview Suite. The most I was offered was a different penthouse but with a better view. I declined since I was primarily looking for more space. I tried this twice before and it worked both times so I’ll still be trying it in the future. Just didn’t have much luck this time but I gotta give the girl a lot of credit to walk away from a hundy like that.

Saved:  $$300/night Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Salone Fountain View Suite  from  Resort Queen Room

Checked in on a Friday evening. Got a guy… didn’t target anyone in particular. Greeted him with a smile. I’m Canadian, so I’m naturally kinda nice and stuff. Asked if there were any room upgrades available when I handed him my cc and dl with a $20 in between. Went from a standard room we booked through oribitz for next to nothing to a Salone Fountain View suite, which shows as a $400+/night room. Great stuff. Had a blast.

Tipped:  $50 Upgraded to  Resort King Room  from  Resort King Room

1. I targeted a younger woman, 25-35, with an outgoing personality. I watched the check-in folks for about ten minutes before I made my move.
2. Time of day was around 12:30 pm.
3. I told her I was an old country boy from Juliette, Georgia who was trying to impress his wife. Told ’em I’d always stayed at lesser properties at the strip, but my wife had always wanted the Bellagio. Then I said the only thing that would make it even better would be a room with a nice view of the fountains. The clerk told me she’d go talk to her boss, when she came back she told me she could help me!

Tipped:  $40 Upgraded to  Cyprus Suite  from  Standard Room

My wife and I were nervous to give this a shot. We decided in advance to spend a random weekend in Las Vegas and we stayed at a cheap hotel the night before in order to be a little more spendy the second night at the Bellagio.

We arrived at about 1:00 PM when the lobby wasn’t very busy. We targeted a young man, maybe 26 or 27, who wasn’t close to any of the other clerks. I slipped $40 in between my credit card and ID, and handed it over as I asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. Right away the clerk knew what was going on and told us to hold on a moment. He got on the phone twice and let us know that we would be set up for the Cyprus Suite.

We were beyond amazed with the room we got. We had two bathrooms, one for me and one for her, the most comfy bed I have ever experienced, an amazing view of the Paris Hotel and the Bellagio Fountains, a sweet living room, two TVs, it was amazing. Bear in mind that this was my wife and my first time at a five star hotel so that might have something to do with it.

We are convinced that dropping the $40 tip gave us a room that would have been between $500 and $600 a night.

Tipped:  $20 Upgraded to  Tower Suite with Fountain View  from  Resort Room

We arrived at the Bellagio around 730pm on a Wednesday night for our 4 night stay. The check-in area was not busy and I selected a younger, gentleman who appeared to be smiling and friendly. I handed him the “sandwich” with a $20 bill and asked him if there were any upgrades available. He immediately said “thank you”, pocketed the money and said “absolutely, let me see what I can do”. He got on the phone and talked with someone about what a nice couple we were and was hoping there was an upgrade available for us. After about 5 minutes, he indicated that there was a fountain view suite available on an all suite and private floor if we wanted that. OF COURSE we wanted that. We thanked him profusely and couldn’t wait to get to our room. It was BEAUTIFUL and we walked in just as the 8pm fountains were going off. It was spectacular and now when we go back to Vegas, we won’t be able to stay in any less of a room. I checked when we got home how much of a $ upgrade it was, and those rooms go for $120/night than the room we booked, so overall an upgrade of $480. I would say I won on my $20 bet in Vegas!!! Thank you very much to this website for giving me the tricks to receive this upgrade!
