1. I targeted a younger woman, 25-35, with an outgoing personality. I watched the check-in folks for about ten minutes before I made my move.
2. Time of day was around 12:30 pm.
3. I told her I was an old country boy from Juliette, Georgia who was trying to impress his wife. Told ’em I’d always stayed at lesser properties at the strip, but my wife had always wanted the Bellagio. Then I said the only thing that would make it even better would be a room with a nice view of the fountains. The clerk told me she’d go talk to her boss, when she came back she told me she could help me!
$20 trick successful; enjoyed a Lakeview Deluxe room on the 19th floor for 5 nights!
After reading all the reviews here, I just had to see for myself if this tipping trick would work. It did and the nice clerk gave us an upgrade to the 24th floor! 7 nights of the fountain view looking right at the Eiffel Tower and gorgeous fountains is highly recommended!!
Put the $20 in between ID and CC. Didn’t think the Clerk saw it, so I mentioned there was something for him there. He said he felt it. He asked me what I was looking for, I said Lakeview, suite. After a lot of typing, we ended up with a corner Tower Deluxe room with a Lakeview. The room was great, but very far from the elevators.
Made the credit card, id, $20 sandwich and asked if there were any fountain view rooms available. She typed on her keyboard and made a call, took about 3 minutes. Then she never told me it was available. She promptly slipped the $20 into her pocket. They put us on the 15th floor with an OUTSTANDING fountain view. Well worth it, I think we would have been sol had I not given the $20. Go for it, it works. I have a pic of the room view if you want to email me. Find me on slickdeals, bigbearballs.
License, $20 (Sticking out), Credit Card sandwich. Checked in with another couple and we both got the same room bump , just one floor apart. Told clerk it was first trip to Vegas and asked if there was anything he could do to make the trip memorable. VERY HAPPY with the room bump!
Checked in late around midnight & gave clerk the $50 along with license. At first she attempted to give back as she thought it was an accident, then i stopped her and said i was wondering if there were any comp upgrades. she said she would take care of me and typed away & called a manager or something to unlock the room (i think she was somewhat new & with limited authority). I asked for a really nice view & she gave us 24th floor right in the middle next to where the suites are. Also i asked what she could do for me because she said that she hadnt been tipped for a long time. She only gave us comp buffet line passes & comped the minibar for about $75.00, so it was obviously worth it. I would assume the value of the $50.00 tip was about $275.00 plus about an hour of our time we would have waited in the buffett line…success!
We went with the $50 trick. Checked in at 11:00am with Aga, a very nice clerk. She was very appreciative of the $50, and actually offered us a suite. That would have been great, but the suite had now direct view of the fountains. We opted for the lower upgrade of a fountain view room, since the wife really wanted to watch the fountains from the room. She gave us a gift certificate for free perfume at one of the shops. She was surprised that we didn’t take the suite, but understood. Great experience. This was my first attempt at the trick, and didn’t feel weird at all.
Not much to say…We had high hopes it would work after reading all of the “success” stories here. We did exactly what everyone else had mentioned about putting a $20 between ID and credit card and very kindly asked if there were any fountain view rooms that might be available. The check in clerk (female about 25 years old) typed away for a few minutes and said sorry there’s nothing, but I can put you on a high floor. We got the 24th floor looking out to the mountains and in the distance was the pool at Caesars.
Did the trick, with the twin placed between my ID and AMEX…started to ask the clerk for an upgrade and he interrupted me with a ‘stop’ hand gesture, and told me not to say anything. We just talked as he filled out the Line Pass card for the restaurants for me, then as he gave me my keys to the room, said ‘enjoy your lake view’…very nice!
I was debating whether or not Bellagio would accept only $20. Some posters claimed $50 was more appropriate, but I went ahead and tried with $20. I had the $20 between my ID and CC, as suggested. She calmly laid the $20 on the counter in full view. Sure enough, the clerk had been through the drill, and my “measly” $20 was sufficient. We were originally going to be facing the pool, according to the clerk, but she offered to upgrade to either a partial lakeview in the new tower, or on the 10th floor with full view. We decided on the full view. Granted it wasn’t as high as we may have liked, but it was still beautiful. Plus I didn’t notice the water cannons at night, which some people complained was too loud.
