New Year's Eve In Las Vegas

It took one night to realize that New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas was probably the best place to celebrate the night in America. Coming from New York City I always thought that there was no better experience than Times Square on New Year’s Eve, but that’s not close to the truth. Times Square is something everyone should experience once but once you realize you’re trapped like cattle in freezing temperatures you almost don’t care that it’s amateur hour for partiers and you just want to go somewhere else.

There’s always chaos in the streets of Las Vegas so there’s minimal difference in the night. That said here are five different ways to enjoy New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas.

1. Traditional New Year’s Eve parties are everywhere in Las Vegas. You can find a party at just about every bar or restaurant inside a casino. These are traditional New Year’s Eve parties and you’ll be indoors with all the booze you can handle, noisemakers and a champagne toast at midnight. Even “normal” parties in Las Vegas are a different experience than you’ll find anywhere else.

2. Head to downtown Las Vegas and watch 13 tribute bands performing on the various stages of the Fremont Street Experience. You’ll also be treated to a virtual fireworks show on the canopy above at midnight. The entire night is truly a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else. This is the only night of the year that you have to pay to for entry ($20) to the Fremont Street Experience. So, yeah, you can enjoy New Year’s Eve roaming freely around the mall of casinos. That’s pretty awesome. Bring a coat just in case it’s a bit chilly.

3. Dress up and hit the clubs for a party unlike any other night of the year. Las Vegas has some of the best nightclubs in the world and they go to a whole other level on New Year’s Eve. Many of the nightclubs bring in the biggest names for their New Year’s Eve celebrations. Some of the big names might be a DJ while others may be big name celebrities. Depending on the nightclub you will be able to have a champagne toast at midnight to go along with your entry fee. Just be warned that entry is a little more expensive than normal.

4. No matter where you live in the world New Year’s Eve is always a fun time to go to a concert. The performers are usually looking to make the night special and offer an experience that you won’t get any other night of the year. Las Vegas has some great concerts to enjoy before, during and after the clock strikes midnight.

5. America’s Party is easily the most popular New Year’s Eve experience in Las Vegas. This is one of the few times that the Vegas Strip is closed to vehicular traffic so you can almost wander the streets however you want. The culmination of New Year’s Eve will take place for 8 minutes and 18 seconds once the clock strikes midnight. The world-famous Grucci family will have over 80,000 fireworks shooting from the rooftop of 7 casinos on the Vegas Strip from MGM Grand to the Stratosphere. Each hotel will have its own song and theme in the fireworks show. There’s even an app to go along with the fireworks show this year. You can download the app from iTunes here.
