For years, Las Vegas Las Vegas has been referred to as “Disney for adults.” Even though Las Vegas has changed a lot over time it remains as a playground for adults. Steve Wynn is taking that motto to heart and expanding Wynn Las Vegas with Wynn Paradise Park.

While this overall idea seems sudden rumors about this development have been floating around for just over a month. Yesterday, on their earnings call Wynn confirmed the rumors revealed a name and offered some details. Wynn Paradise Park is a massive expansion of the property and will cost somewhere around $1.5 billion dollars. Wynn Paradise Park will include a 38-acre lagoon, meeting and convention space, a 1,000 room hotel tower, a small casino and even more dining and nightlife than you have at the existing property.

The expansion of Wynn Las Vegas will be constructed on approximately 130 acres of land that currently houses the Wynn Golf Club and golf course. The centerpiece of the project will be that massive 38-acre lagoon which will have a white sand beach and a mile long boardwalk. A variety of daytime activities presented will including water skiing, paddle boarding and parasailing. Ever think you’d be able to do something like this on the Vegas Strip? Expect the fun to continue at night as Wynn is planning to use the lagoon as home base for an elaborate fireworks display from the 120 ft. center island and surrounding areas.

“We have a chance to reinvent Las Vegas and make the whole venue an entertainment attraction…an idyllic beach paradise surrounded by white sand beaches,” said Steve Wynn chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts. “People come to Las Vegas from all over the world to live large and have a good time and we can dish up an irresistible entertainment attraction.”

Wynn Paradise Park will add 260,000 square feet of meeting space with unobstructed views of the waterfront. This comes at a time where the Las Vegas Convention Center is planning a nearby expansion of their own towards the Vegas Strip on the land currently occupied by the Riviera. If you’re having a small to mid-size meeting or convention in Las Vegas wouldn’t you like to have a sweet waterfront view outside of your windows?

The 1,000 room boutique hotel will have rooms that are laid out similar to Encore. The rooms (or suites) will have a separate bedroom, living room and balcony. The hotel will have a variety of restaurants, including an expansion of the current Country Club restaurant.

For full disclosure, the development of is subject to approval by the company’s Board of Directors but it probably wouldn’t have been released it that approval wasn’t almost a certainty. It’s not surprising that Steve Wynn would release this information on the day where MGM Resorts opened their new arena down the Vegas Strip.

Here’s a fun fact, the land being used for this $1.5 billion project was acquired with the purchase of the Desert Inn 16 years ago for $270 million. Note, the rendering above isn’t final so do expect Wynn Paradise Park to look exactly the same.
